GSS’s Running List of Kids’ Birthday Party Activities in San Francisco

Planning your kid’s birthday party can be a blast, but if we’re being honest, it can also be a lot. Finding something your child will love that fits your space (or energy level) can feel overwhelming. At Goldie we are firmly against gatekeeping, so we decided to put together a guide of some of the best birthday party activities and entertainers out there. From bounce houses to the bubble man, whether you’re hosting at home or looking for a venue that does it all, we’ve got you covered.

If you have a favorite that’s not on this list, please let us know. We all know the best tips come from other parents who’ve been there, so let’s share that collective wisdom and make it easier for those coming up after us!

Face Painting

Face painting is a classic birthday party activity for a reason! These local artists bring color, creativity, and sparkle right to you, transforming your kiddo into their favorite characters, animals, or fantasy creatures.

  • Happycake Face Painting: Playful and vibrant designs that turn kids into butterflies, superheroes, and anything else they can imagine.

  • Verso Braiding: Fun, festive braids and glitter styles that make kids feel party-ready and photo-perfect.

SF Parks & Bounce Houses

We are lucky to live in a city with so many green spaces and playgrounds, so an SF-birthday activity list would not be complete without a shoutout to the many venues available through San Francisco Recreation & Park. Rec & Park offers reservable picnic sites, recreation centers, and play areas across the city, many of which allow bounce houses, making it a great option for large groups or active kids.

Here are some of our favorite SF Rec & Park spots:

Bounce House Rentals: If your kiddo is into getting some air and bouncing around, check out this site to see which picnic areas and parks can accommodate bounce houses. SF Rec & Park maintains a list of approved “jumper” vendors. Companies like Big Air Jumpers, Prime Time Interactive, or Jumpity Jump can take care of all of the logistics for you—from delivery to set up and taking down inflatable castles, slides, and obstacle courses.

Indoor Play Venues

For those rainy-season babies or when you don’t want to worry about weather contingency plans, indoor play spaces are your best friend. These spots keep the energy high (and your house intact).

  • Little Oceanauts: A bright, ocean-themed indoor playground perfect for toddlers and young kids.

  • Peek-a-Boo Factory SF & Peek-a-Boo Factory Daly City: Multi-level play zones with slides, climbing structures, and themed party packages.

  • House of Air: Trampoline heaven for kids who love to bounce, flip, and fly.

  • Acrosports: Gymnastics, parkour, and tumbling parties led by trained instructors. It’s organized chaos in the best way.

  • WOW Kids Playground: A vibrant, multi‑level indoor play facility featuring themed zones (including toddler‑only areas), private party rooms, and ample space for kids to climb, slide, and explore.

Creative & Hands-On Experiences

Perfect for curious kids who love to build, make or try something new. These spaces also serve as the venue.

  • Rabbit Hole Theater: Immersive themed adventures where kids step into their favorite stories and play pretend with professional (and fantastical) guidance. Think opportunities for creative storytelling and epic dress-up parties.

  • Art Barn Mill Valley: A creative oasis for hands-on art projects in a cozy, rustic setting.

  • Children’s Creativity Museum: Interactive museum parties that inspire kids to invent, create, and explore.

  • CuriOdyssey: Celebrate surrounded by science and wildlife (cute otters!).

  • California Academy of Sciences: A one-of-a-kind venue for animal lovers and budding scientists.

Outdoor Adventures & Experiences

For immersive experiences and activities in the great outdoors, these options have something for everyone - from naturalists to little athletes.

  • TreeFrog Treks: Nature-based parties where kids meet live animals and explore with naturalist guides. They meet you in a park and take the kids on nature walks, encouraging exploration of local plants and animals.

  • Coach Steve and PlayballSF: Engaging, coach-led games and activities that keep kids active, laughing, and working together.

Bring a little wonder and a lot of laughter with magicians and balloon artists who know how to captivate a crowd.

  • Perry Yan: Offers a high-energy 30-minute magic show that engages both kids and adults, plus imaginative balloon creations for take-home fun.

Sweet Treats

Because no birthday is complete without something sweet. Check out these local bakeries for delicious (and mini) treats.
